Where the book lives
What is in the folder, what cannot be changed, and what Publish sends out.
What is in the folder
novel.yaml is the book list. Settings are Markdown files. Chapters, chapter plans, and main characters are listed in that file. Extra people can exist as files only. source/chapters/ is the imported original.
- craft.md is how each chapter should land: payoff, escalation, shape.
- upcoming.md is the next plot, not finished until you confirm it. state.md is what is true now.
- Chat summaries never replace these files.
What cannot be quietly overwritten
The app can read and edit the book's Markdown. source/chapters/ and novel.yaml are read-only. Overwriting something that already exists needs you to ask. Continuity checks do not write.
Publish
Publish packs chapters/ (or source/chapters/ if you have not drafted yet) and uses brief.md as the public blurb. You get a reading link. Library on this site lists books already published that way.
Words you will see
A few names show up in the app. They mean ordinary things.
- Settings: the Markdown files for world, people, outline, and style.
- Plot draft: upcoming.md. It is a discussion, not finished, until you confirm it.
- Background job: work that keeps running on its own. It is not one chat reply.
- Original text: source/chapters/. Imported chapters stay read-only.
